Microsoft, a company loved and hated by many. They have been the leader in home pc operating systems for years. Windows 8s goal seems to change all that. Windows 8 is terrible from the ground up and many people are going to hate it. The system is a bigger failure than Windows Vista. Here is why.
1. The lack of a start button.
The start button has been a feature of Windows for years that set it apart from others. The start button is where you could find everything from all of your programs to important tools to turning off your computer. Now it's gone.
2. Metro UI and PC UI
Where as most Operating systems run 1 UI at a time you have to bounce between to user interface to navigate Windows 8. This feels ultra clunky and is really a stupid idea. Yeah, instead of a start menu you have to press the windows key, click the bottom left corner of the screen (which only works sometimes), or mouse over the bottom right until a side bar decides to appear that you can click the windows logo on to open metro.
3. Metro UI Bad for PCs should stay on Phones
Metro is really dumb. Once you open it you will notice you have no icons at all hardly when your computer is first set up. Mine is a little more because I've been using it for a while. In order to access all of your programs you have to right click in an empty area, then a little bar will pop up and you can click all apps and it gives you a jumbled up list of all of your apps which you have to scroll through sideways. When you run a Metro app like internet explorer 10 or their built in PDF viewer there is no close button. The only way to actually close the app is to hold ALT + F4. When you are in the PDF Reader and want to print the document you are viewing there is no print option. You have to press CTRL+P. So, in order to use Metro and Windows 8 you pretty well have to know all of Windows 7s keyboard shortcuts because the on screen buttons are pretty well all gone.
4. The Windows Shop
Probably the only good thing about Windows 8 is the shop. Which really isn't revolutionary because Google has the Chrome Webstore for Chrome OS and Google Play for Android and Apple has iTunes for Mac and the APP Store for IOS. It is nice to see Microsoft finally adding a store to Windows to shop for apps though.
I don't understand why Microsoft is doing this. If their development team is just a bunch of idiots or what, but this system is terrible. I hate using it and will not be using it for my main PC at home. I am definitely sticking with my Chromebook.
