Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct video blog showcasing some new information on the 3DS XL amongst other things. The most interesting piece for many is the announcement about Smash Bros. 3D/Wii U. Super Smash Brothers has been one of the top selling video games ever made. With good reason the games were epic, fun, and had the best fighting engines ever developed. This time though Masahiro Sakurai the genius behind the franchise is bringing in Namco Bandai to help ramp things up. This is great because Namco Bandai has been developing games in the fighting genre for a long time. Games like Tekken and Street Fighter to be exact. It only makes since to bring the largest developers of fighting games together. Masahiro Sakurai will still be directing the game which is a bonus for us. Though Tekken and Street Fighter are fun, that's not what Smash Bros. fans are looking for. We want something similar to Brawl with more content and some new ideas added in.
Masahiro Sakurai has also stated that with Namco Bandai's help the release of the games should come sooner. Still taking a while though because they are developing 2 games at the same time that need to be able to interact together. They will also be slightly different because the 3DS version will focus on it's concept of glasses free 3D and the Wii U version will most likely take advantage of it's un-paralleled HD graphics rending system and Miiverse. Masahiro Sakurai also said that as soon as Kid Icarus Uprising was launched for the 3DS he began work on the new Smash Brothers series. If things go according to plan we may see some gameplay or information released by E3 2013. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed.
