When Google first released Android OS Microsoft said it would never last and that a free OS would never work for a large scale amount of Phones and Tablets. Now several years later Microsoft's Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 barely cling on in 3rd place leaving Microsoft no choice, but to make drastic changes. Microsoft says that now OEMs can freely use Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 on devices with a screen size of 9 inches or less. Their big goal is to continue to make money on Laptops and Desktops which sales are also slowing thanks to Google's Chrome OS and to try and get more people using the new Windows. I don't feel this is truly going to make much of a difference. Reason being Android is a powerful open os that is very customizable and user friendly. Windows on the other hand has gotten difficult to use, sluggish, insecure, and has next to no customization. The system requirements for Android are also far lower. Android offers cloud based services that are decades ahead of Microsoft. Android also has a large and loyal fan base.
