Chrome OS Getting a Major Revamp

The largest complaint on Chromebooks is that they are a little laggy with flash games and that there are no native applications allowed.  Very little offline functionality is currently available in them.  This is set to change later this year however.  As the Chromium development team has introduced a prototype of Aura Shell.  Aura Shell is an actual desktop environment put into Chrome OS.  All your data will still be stored on the Cloud, but with Aura Shell you will be able to have some native applications as well as a lot of offline features.

The current build of it looks kind of like a revamped version of Windows 7s system.  Very well designed though with a lot more polished feel than Microsoft has put on a desktop OS in a long time.    This could put Chrome OS in direct competition with Windows for the throne on Operating Systems.  Google's first design was good, but people didn't seem to understand the concept of everything being in the browser.  That's where this new design delivers.  I do like the idea as a Chrome Developer of having a desktop environment and if they allow for native apps all the better maybe my development tools can be ported over and I can build and play on my Chromebook.  I will be very interested in seeing how Google rolls this out, but the report is for now that they are planning on having it out later this year.
